On Thursday, teachers and support staff gathered in the staffroom for tea, coffee and hot-cross buns to wish a fond farewell to Gill Cupit, who has worked at Tuxford for 30 years. Mr Hardy presented Mrs Cupit with flowers and gifts to mark her years of service to Tuxford.
In her speech to staff, Mrs Cupit’s talked about her connection with the school going right back to 1973 when she started as a student in form 1A! In her speech today, to mark three decades working at Tuxford Academy, she mentioned her unique position amongst the staff as she has known every headteacher at the school.
Some of Mrs. Cupit’s fondest memories are from school trips, where staff and students ‘see a different side of each other and build brilliant relationships’. She has accompanied students on countless post-16 trips, year 9 London trips, and the year 8 Paris trips to name a few. Mrs Cupit has also helped to organise and has been part of many ski trips. Her favourite was the 2016 Prato Nevoso trip in Italy.
Mrs Cupit said that she had made lifelong friends at Tuxford Academy and also took a moment to remember colleagues no longer with us.
She commented, ‘Tuxford has been such a huge part of my life. It’s shaped who I am, given me memories I’ll treasure forever, and introduced me to some truly incredible people. It’s not easy to say goodbye, but I leave with a full heart and more stories than I can count. Thank you all for the laughter, support, and unforgettable moments.’
Mrs Cupit will begin her retirement by visiting her son in Canada and plans to meet her new grandchild due in June. We would like to thank Gill for her contribution to Tuxford Academy and the post 16 centre and wish her a very happy retirement.
